The Gary W. Siler Team MVP Award
Coach Gary Wayne Siler (1958 - 2015)
In 2018, Harford Tech's team MVP award was officially renamed the Gary W. Siler Memorial Team MVP Award in honor of late Hall of Fame Coach Gary Siler.
Siler was Head Coach of the Cobras for 24 seasons, from 1988-2012.
During his tenure as Head Coach, Siler led the Cobras to over 350 dual meet victories. His team won Harford Tech's first ever Maryland State Championship in 2006, as well as runner-up finishes in 2003 & 2004. During his tenure, he coached three individual state titlists (Mike Taylor '04, Mike Long '06, Lance Lepard '09), as well as 21 state placewinners. His Cobra wrestlers had 13 individual appearances in the MPSSAA State Finals.
Siler was also a U.S. Army veteran & former Masonry instructor at the school. His family was an integral part of his tenure at the helm of the Wrestling program. His wife, Amy, contributed much time to the program. His daughters, Tori ('18) and Kaylee ('20) spent all four years of their high school careers as managers of the program.
Siler was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Maryland Chapter in October 2012, where he received the Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award.
Coach Siler passed away suddenly on April 3, 2015. He was 58 years old.
